The house is located on a small dead-end street lined with two hundred year live oaks, pines, palms and river birches. The street ends in a beautiful private lake whose circling trees are populated by herons, egrets, ibis, wood storks, and waterfowl. 102 Silver Lake Road is one of eight houses on the street and is surrounded by live oaks; pig hickories, magnolias, holly and a series of delightful Japanese-inspired woodland gardens. A one-room garden house sits under a bamboo grove in the southwest corner of the property.
The house, modernized in 2005 and 2006, has a large open living room with a wood-burning fireplace surrounded by Italian stone. The living room is open to a dinning area that has a view of a huge oak. The dinning area flows into a large new eat-in kitchen that has a breath taking view of the back gardens. The kitchen is flooded with light and opens to a garden storage area on one side and a stained concrete deck with a container herb garden and seating that overlooks much of the gardens on the other. There is a separate raised kitchen garden beneath the wall of windows.
The three bedrooms (each with its own bathroom), a study and storage are located to the right of the living area down a hallway used as a photographic gallery. All the bedrooms have views of a garden and good-sized closets. The master bedroom has a its own private moon garden that is reached through French doors located in a sitting area of the bedroom. The garden can also be seen from the master bathroom that has its own water heater, a double sink vanity, a large double shower with a bench and a frameless glass door. There is also storage for linens and clothes. The study is part of the master suite and has two walls of floor to ceiling bookcases, a storage closet, high-speed computer wiring and has a view of the front garden.
The interior of the house is very minimalist and peaceful, a sanctuary furnished with mid-century design (Eames, Bertoia, Donelly, Jacobsen and other designers), vintage kilim rugs and black and white photographs by photographers Jerry Ulsman, Edouard Boubat, Steve Katzman, Meryl Truett, Erika Langley and Trip Smith.
This is a unique island property on one of Georgias most beautiful barrier islands.
